Days of Thunder[1] is a song by The Midnight. It is the fourth track from their EP Days of Thunder. The song was later released as a remix single on August 1, 2016, through the label Silk Music, the second single from The Midnight Remixed.[2]

The song was written by band members Tim McEwan and Tyler Lyle and produced by McEwan. It has a running time of five minutes and 24 seconds and is in the key of C minor. The saxophone on Days of Thunder was played by Thomas Edinger.

In addition to appearing on The Midnight Remixed, the PROFF pres. Soultorque Remix of Days of Thunder appears on the Silk Music compilation Silk Music Pres. Proff 01.[3] This remix was also the version of Days of Thunder that was played during the Fall 2023 North American Tour.

Official description

Days of Thunder (incl. PROFF pres. Soultorque Remix)

The Midnight, consisting of Danish-born (LA-based) producer Tim McEwan and NYC-based singer-songwriter Tyler Lyle, made their triumphant Silk Music debut earlier this year with "WeMoveForward," an electrifying peak-hour anthem. The single has since been championed by the likes of Chicane and Roger Shah. In recent months, the duo have continued to generate tremendous buzz (including hundreds of thousands of streams on YouTube and Spotify) for their latest self-released singles. As fans anxiously await their debut artist album, we have revived their characteristically 80s-inspired classic "Days Of Thunder," featuring a brand new drum & bass remix by Russian legend PROFF.

The Midnight's original version of "Days Of Thunder" kicks off with a start-your-engines sample, hinting at the titular Tom Cruise-helmed feature film. We are soon met by an uptempo groove and Tyler's thrilling vocal, the first of several verses that lyrically feature a playful conceit, regarding the dark side of love. The euphoric, sing-along chorus is punctuated by an equally emotive saxophone riff, which ultimately enjoys an extended solo. The Midnight's neon-tinged instrumentation and inspired vocal performance coalesce in the form of a sonic masterpiece.

Faced with the daunting task of remixing a superlative track, PROFF demonstrates his enviable artistic versatility by tapping his Soultorque alias; the result is another blissful drum & bass rendering. His composition features adrenalin-fueled beats, which are soothingly offset by lush and tranquil pads and other melodic accents. Tyler's emotive vocal soars above PROFF's simultaneously dance-friendly and introspective arrangement.

Lyrics

Love is a setting sun
Is a smoking gun
Is a four letter word
I hope it hurts
Love is a fatal flaw
Is a broken jaw
Is a burning bridge
Move your hips

And the ghost of the boulevard
Littered with lonely hearts
The city like a graveyard
Once was a postcard
When you lose your wonder
And you can't remember
When we were living
In the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of

Love was a dream to have
Was a king-size bed
Was an escape plan
Was an open hand
Now it's a dog from hell
It's a dream you sell
It's an epitaph
It's photograph

And the ghost of the boulevard
Littered with lonely hearts
The city like a graveyard
Once was a postcard
When you lose your wonder
And you can't remember
When we were living
In the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of

Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of thunder
Living in the days of
