Since playing their first live show in 2017, The Midnight have played over 175 shows spanning five tours, 13 festivals, and various other one-off shows. As of 2023, they have performed in North America, Europe, and Australia. The band will make their Asian debut in 2024 with four shows planned for India.

The Midnight played their first two live shows in 2017 in the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles. During the first two years of live performances, the touring lineup consisted of Tim McEwan, Tyler Lyle, and a saxophone player, who was most often Jesse Molloy. The Midnight did a short three-show tour in March 2018 before embarking on their first full tour in September of the same year, playing 18 shows across North America. The Spring 2019 Tour featured the band's first shows outside of North America with performances in Europe and Australia.

With a desire to increase the production value and make a more authentic live show, Lelia Broussard was added to the touring lineup as a guitar and bass player beginning with the Fall 2019 Tour. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted The Midnight's touring plans for 2020, and the band instead performed an online-only show that fall, The Midnight Online. The show was notable for the addition of Royce Whittaker as a guitar player to the touring lineup, giving The Midnight a five-piece live band which they have continued to use ever since. The Midnight returned to touring with the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour, which visited North America, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The Change Your Heart Tour began in the fall of 2022 and saw the band make a full return to Europe for the first time since 2019. The Fall 2023 North American Tour was The Midnight's most recent tour and featured 25 shows performed over six weeks, the longest individual run of shows for the band to date. In 2024, The Midnight will tour India for the first time and will also tour Australia for the first time since 2019. This will be followed by the Summer 2024 EU/UK Tour which will be the band's first tour to take place exclusively in Europe.

Outside of tours, The Midnight have also performed at many prominent music festivals including Outside Lands, Austin City Limits, and Bonnaroo. Other live performances include several online benefit shows and DJ sets. Most of the DJ set shows were done prior to the start of touring in 2018, but Tyler Lyle did a four show DJ set tour as The Midnight in December 2022, which featured new remixes of several The Midnight songs that have yet to be heard elsewhere.

Since the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour, the band's touring lineup is composed of Tim McEwan on synths and percussion, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Lelia Broussard on guitar and vocals, Royce Whittaker on guitar and backing vocals, and Justin Klunk on saxophone. McEwan will depart the touring lineup following the 2024 tours in India and Australia.

In March 2022, it was announced that all European dates except for the UK and Ireland were canceled due to continuing COVID-19 concerns. Several notable changes were made to the band's live format during this tour. First appearing during The Midnight Online, Royce Whittaker was added as a full-time touring member, playing guitar alongside fellow Jupiter Winter member Lelia Broussard. For the first time, Tim McEwan played with a full drum kit. The November 27 show in Los Angeles was streamed live on Veeps.  The lineup consisted of Tim McEwan on drums, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Jesse Molloy on saxophone, Lelia Broussard on bass and guitar, and Royce Whittaker on guitar. During the spring North American dates, Molloy and Whittaker were replaced by Justin Klunk and Chris Kuffner, respectively. The October 19 show in Mexico City featured The Midnight opening for ODESZA, the band's first time being a supporting act. This and the following show at Live Out were The Midnight's first shows in Mexico since 2019. 25 shows were performed over six weeks, the longest individual run of shows in the band's history since they began touring in 2018. |colspan="14" style="border-bottom-width:1px; padding:1em;"| The Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour was The Midnight's first tour since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dates for a Spring 2021 Tour in Europe were announced in the summer of 2020 before being pushed back to the following year. The North American dates were announced in April 2021. In March 2022, it was announced that all European dates except for the UK and Ireland were canceled due to continuing COVID-19 concerns. Several notable changes were made to band's live format during this tour. The line up consisted of Tim McEwan on drums, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Jesse Molloy on saxophone, Lelia Broussard on bass and guitar, and Royce Whittaker on guitar. During the spring North American dates, Molloy and Whittaker were replaced by Justin Klunk and Chris Kuffner, respectively. Whittaker returned to the lineup after the conclusion of the tour, with Klunk staying on as the band's saxophonist. Supporting acts on the tour were Jupiter Winter, Nightly, and Goose.

The North American dates were announced in April 2022 with European dates being announced in September 2022. The tour began right after the release of the band's fifth album Heroes (and is named after the song Change Your Heart or Die) and as such the songs from that album were a focal point of the setlist. There were no new additions to the touring lineup, which consisted of Tim McEwan on drums, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Lelia Broussard on bass and guitar, Royce Whittaker on guitar, and Justin Klunk on saxophone.

McEwan will depart the touring lineup following the 2024 tours in India and Australia.[1]

Tours

Many of The Midnight's tours have not been given distinct names and in some cases had shows that were not explicitly implied to be part of a distinct tour. The shows on these tours have been grouped together and given general names based on when they occurred for the sake of convenience and readability. In most cases, the format of the show remained unchanged across the span of the dates stated.

The Spring 2019 Tour saw The Midnight performing outside of North America for the first time with shows in Europe and Australia. The European dates were announced in June 2018 and the North American dates were added in October 2018. Two Australian dates in Melbourne and Sydney were announced in April 2019 to accompany the band's already planned appearance at the Splendour in the Grass festival. The lineup consisted of Tim McEwan on synths and percussion and Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals. The role of saxophonist rotated throughout the tour, which began with Jacob Scesney and Lito Hernandez in Europe and the first batch of North American dates, followed by Jesse Molloy for the summer North American and Australian dates. Announced in February 2019, the Fall 2019 Tour was The Midnight's third tour and was notable for the addition of Lelia Broussard to the touring lineup as a bass and guitar player. Broussard, who is one-half of the music duo Jupiter Winter, won the role through an audition and has remained as a guitarist with the band ever since. Since joining, she has also contributed to the writing and instrumentation of a few of The Midnight's songs alongside fellow Jupiter Winter member Royce Whittaker, who himself would join The Midnight's touring lineup in 2020. The final show of the tour, which took place in London, was the band's 100th show. The lineup consisted of Tim McEwan on synths and percussion, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Jesse Molloy on saxophone, and Lelia Broussard on bass and guitar. Jacob Scesney filled in for Molloy on the dates from September 12-14 due to Molloy having a prior commitment with Panic! at the Disco. Supporting acts on the tour were Flamingosis and Violet Days.

2021 2022 tour promo.jpg
The Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour was The Midnight's first tour since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whittaker returned to the lineup after the conclusion of the tour, with Klunk staying on as the band's saxophonist. Supporting acts on the tour were Jupiter Winter, Nightly, and Goose.
2022-2023 Change Your Heart Tour September 21, 2022 – March 31, 2023 (North America and Europe) 36
Change Your Heart Tour Flyer.png
The Change Your Heart Tour saw The Midnight return to Europe (outside of the UK and Ireland) for the first time since 2019. Supporting acts on the tour were Nightly, Bryce Menchaca, Goose, Pol, and Saint Raymond.
2023 Fall 2023 North American Tour September 16, 2023 – October 21, 2023 (North America) 25
2023 fall NA tour poster.jpg
Announced in April 2023, the Fall 2023 North American Tour was the band's sixth tour. All shows were in the US except for the last two, which took place in Mexico. The format of the show remained largely unchanged from the prior summer's Los Angeles and Bonnaroo shows, though the band no longer wore matching white shirts and ties. The tour included two festival shows at Music Midtown in Atlanta and Live Out in Monterrey. The lineup consisted of Tim McEwan on synths and percussion, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Lelia Broussard on bass and guitar, Royce Whittaker on guitar, and Justin Klunk on saxophone. The supporting act for the tour was Flamingosis for all American shows except for the September 29 Chicago show, which opened with Replicant.

Summer2024EUUK.jpg
Announced in February 2024, the Summer 2024 EU/UK Tour was be The Midnight's first tour to take place exclusively in Europe. This was the first tour to not feature Tim McEwan in the touring lineup following his departure from touring earlier in the year. The lineup consisted of Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Lelia Broussard on bass and guitar, Royce Whittaker on guitar, Justin Klunk on saxophone, and Kwesi Robinson on drums. The supporting act for tour was Circe.
2024 Chrome Nights North American Tour September 5, 2024 – October 18, 2024 (North America) 32
ChromeNightsTour.jpg
Announced in February 2024, the Chrome Nights North American Tour was co-headlined with Canadian electro-funk duo Chromeo. The is the first The Midnight tour to be co-headlined with another act, and as such The Midnight's set times were shorter compared to previous tours. The Midnight played in some of their biggest venues yet during this tour, including several that were outdoors. Each show opened with the supporting act, followed by The Midnight and then concluding with Chromeo. A planned show in Asheville, North Carolina was canceled due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, one of the few The Midnight shows to get canceled for a reason other than COVID-19. The lineup consisted of Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Lelia Broussard on bass and guitar, Royce Whittaker on guitar, Justin Klunk on saxophone, and Kwesi Robinson on drums. Supporting acts for the tour were Ruth Radelet and Girl Ultra.
