Turbo Drive: FM-84 & The Midnight was the first ever live show by The Midnight. The show, which also featured fellow synthwave artist FM-84, took place on July 14, 2017, at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco.[1]

Background

The show was billed as The Midnight's first concert and was officially announced on May 22, 2017.[2][3][4] Tim McEwan had previously performed live DJ sets as The Midnight, but these performances were limited to him and did not feature Tyler Lyle in any way.[5] On June 21, Lyle posted on the band's Facebook page that they were seeking video editors to submit clips and graphics to go along with The Midnight's songs for the show.[6] On July 10, McEwan shared on social media that he was in rehearsals with Tyler for the show.[7] Two days later, he also shared that the show would feature live saxophone.[8]

Overview and Setlist

The Midnight's lineup for the show consisted of Tim McEwan on synths, Tyler Lyle on vocals and guitar, and Jesse Molloy on saxophone. Molloy would go on to be the saxophonist for most of The Midnight's future live shows. The songs performed were from Days of Thunder and Endless Summer, alongside an intro that featured the then unreleased song Nocturnal. The show is available to listen and watch in full on the Internet Archive.[9][10]

The band's setlist was as follows:

  1. Nocturnal (intro)
  2. The Years (Prologue)
  3. Gloria
  4. Vampires
  5. Lost & Found
  6. Days of Thunder
  7. The Comeback Kid
  8. Los Angeles
  9. Sunset
