The Midnight Remix Radio was a remix competition put on by The Midnight. The competition commenced on March 23, 2020, and for one week interested remixers were able to download the stems for the songs The Comeback Kid, Los Angeles, Explorers, and River of Darkness to remix.[1] The winners were revealed during a live YouTube stream on April 3, 2020.[2][3]
Background
Beginning in March 2020, much of the world was under lockdown and stay-at-home orders due to the effects of COVID-19 pandemic. This led The Midnight to explore the possibility of releasing stems for some of their songs for the general public to remix. On March 16, the band released a poll on Twitter asking fans which song they would prefer to remix.[4] The choices given were The Comeback Kid, Los Angeles, Explorers, and River of Darkness. The results were well split among the four options. Los Angeles won with a plurality, taking 35.7% of the votes cast.
One week later on March 23, the remix contest was officially announced.[1] The band decided to release the stems for all four of the aforementioned songs, and prospective remixers were directed to the band's website to fill out a disclosure form after which they could download the stems.[5][6] Submissions were due on March 30.
Winners
Over 500 remixes were submitted for consideration.[7] After three days of judging, the winners were revealed during a live YouTube stream on April 3, 2020, hosted by band members Tim McEwan and Tyler Lyle.[2][3] 20 remixes were selected.
