The Midnight concert chronology

The Fall 2023 North American Tour was the sixth concert tour by The Midnight.[1] Announced in April 2023, the tour began on September 16, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia, and concluded on October 21, 2023, in Monterrey, Mexico. All shows were in the United States except for the final two which were in Mexico.

The Fall 2023 North American Tour featured a diverse array of songs from across all of The Midnight's releases. The tour saw Tim McEwan return to the front of the stage playing synths and pads, having previously performed with a full drum kit since the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour. During the tour, the band played for the first time at the music festivals Music Midtown in Atlanta and Live Out in Monterrey. Additionally, they opened for ODESZA on their The Last Goodbye Tour on October 19, 2023, The Midnight's first time being a supporting act and their first performance in Mexico since 2019.

25 shows were performed over the span of six weeks, the longest individual run of shows for The Midnight since they began touring in 2018. The band's lineup, unchanged since the spring leg of the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Tour, consisted of Tim McEwan on percussion and synths, Tyler Lyle on guitar and vocals, Lelia Broussard on guitar and bass, Royce Whittaker on guitar, and Justin Klunk on saxophone.

Since forming in 2012, The Midnight have released three EPs, five studio albums, one live album, two remix albums, 18 singles, 10 remix singles, and 10 remixes of songs by other artists. Composed of producer Tim McEwan and singer-songwriter Tyler Lyle, The Midnight debuted in July 2014 with the extended play (EP) Days of Thunder. While the EP did not feature any singles, it gained traction on Reddit and several small music sites throughout 2014 and 2015.[2][3] In August 2016, The Midnight's first album Endless Summer was released, preceded by the release of the singles Sunset and Vampires. Endless Summer firmly established the band as a top artist within the synthwave scene, with songs like Sunset, Vampires, and Los Angeles quickly becoming staples of the genre.[4][5][6]

One year after Endless Summer, The Midnight released their first remix album The Midnight Remixed in August 2017, a collaboration with electronic music label Silk Music. The album was notable as being their first release associated with a label and was also their first release to appear on a Billboard chart, peaking at 22 on the Dance/Electronic Albums Chart. In October 2017, Nocturnal was released as the band's second album, supported by the single Crystalline. Embracing a darker sound and receiving positive reviews from critics,[7][8][9][10][11] the album appeared on three Billboard charts: Dance/Electronic, Heatseekers, and Vinyl.

The Midnight released their third album Kids in September 2018. The first entry in a trilogy series of albums, it was described by the band as being "dedicated to the disaffected youth"[12] and featured a lighter, more upbeat sound that channeled an idealized 1980s childhood. Preceded by the singles Lost Boy, America 2, and Arcade Dreams, Kids received more mixed reviews from critics compared to Nocturnal[13][14][15][16][17] but was a success commercially, topping the Billboard Dance/Electronic Sales chart and peaking at number two on the Heatseekers chart. The Midnight's second remix album The Midnight Remixed 02 was released by Silk Music in September 2019 and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart.

The Kids trilogy continued in the summer of 2020 with the release of Monsters in July, their debut with the label Counter Records, an imprint of Ninja Tune. Spawning the singles America Online, Deep Blue, Dance With Somebody, and Prom Night, Monsters extended on the thematic elements initially introduced in Kids while venturing into new genres like lo-fi and vaporwave. Commended by critics for expanding The Midnight's horizons,[18][19][20][21][22] the album was their first release to appear on the Billboard 200 chart where it peaked at 134. In October 2020, the Halloween-themed Horror Show was released as the band's second EP. Initially exclusive to Amazon Music, Horror Show was aided in production by electronic musician Essenger and featured a cover of the Patti Smith Group hit song Because The Night. The EP would later receive a full release to all platforms in March 2021.

Summer 2021 saw The Midnight celebrating the fifth anniversary of Endless Summer by reissuing the album with two new bonus tracks, Comet and Bend. This was followed in July by the release of The Rearview Mirror, an EP containing five orchestral arrangements of songs from the album in collaboration with the Magik*Magik Orchestra. The Kids trilogy concluded in September 2022 with the release of Heroes, the band's fifth album. Supported by the singles Change Your Heart or Die, Heartbeat, Avalanche, Brooklyn. Friday. Love., and Heart Worth Breaking, Heroes continued The Midnight's efforts to bend and experiment with different genres. Featuring more rock and Americana influences, critics favorably compared the album to works by Mutt Lange and Giorgio Moroder.[23][24][25] Heroes appeared on a total of seven Billboard charts, the most notable of which was the Billboard 200 where it peaked at 134. In April 2023, The Midnight's first live album Red, White and Bruised: The Midnight Live was released exclusively to independent record stores as part of Record Store Day 2023, later receiving a full release to all platforms in September 2023.

Outside of their main releases, Tim McEwan has remixed songs for other artists under The Midnight name, beginning in 2015 with a remix of the Tyler Lyle song Lost & Found. Other artists he has remixed include Drake, Scavenger Hunt, Jon Bellion, A R I Z O N A, and The Night Game. The Midnight were a featured artist on the Timecop1983 song Static in May 2018, and in November 2019 they contributed the song Sometimes She Smiles for the compilation album Vehlinggo Presents: 5 Years. After streaming the song's creation on Twitch, Cold Pizza was released as a YouTube only song in February 2021 to commemorate National Pizza Day. In February 2024, they were a featured artist on the Essenger song Silence.
