The song was written by band members tim_mcewan and tyler_lyle and produced by McEwan. It has a running time of six minutes and twenty-one seconds and is in the key of [[WP>E-flat major|E-flat major]]. The synth solo on Kick Drums & Red Wine was performed by Oliver McEwan.

Demo version
An early demo of Kick Drums & Red Wine was released as a prize during the Fall 2020 alternate reality game (ARG). Titled Kick Drums & Red Wine v2, it is rather short and has little in common with the final version of the song. The instrumentation is completely different, having a more progressive house feel akin to wemoveforward. The only vocals present in the demo are the first verse and chorus, which seem to be unchanged in the final version.
