Silence is a song by Essenger featuring The Midnight. The song was originally planned to be included on Essenger's 2020 album After Dark but did not make the final tracklist. Silence was first made available on the vinyl deluxe edition of After Dark in early February 2024 before getting released to all platforms on February 28, 2024.

The song was written and produced by Jeffrey Blake Simpson, Tim McEwan, and Tyler Lyle. It has a running time of four minutes and three seconds and is in the key of E-flat minor. This is the second time that Essenger and The Midnight have collaborated - Essenger co-produced four tracks on Horror Show in 2020.

Lyrics

Late at night had a sinking feeling
That you were right sayin' I'm not seeing
All the lies that I made myself believe
That seemed to divide us

Once in my life moving on towards something
I realized it was all for nothing
Wonder why every good thing has to end
In nothing but silence

I'm trying but I can't find
A way to let you know that
I'm dying on the inside
The feeling sets in in the silence

In the silence...

Pressing through the paradoxes
One door opens, another locks its
Shrinking walls of freedom's fantasies

Now gravity spins off its axis
Fever dream phantoms of your absence
Fading frames to cold geometry

I'm trying but I can't find
A way to let you know that
I'm dying on the inside
The feeling sets in in the silence

In the silence...

The feeling sets in in the silence
