McEwan has said that the drums in Jason are "a clear homage to [[WP>Maniac (Michael Sembello song)|Maniac]] by [[WP>Michael Sembello|Michael Sembello]]."[2]
Demo version
An early demo of Jason was released as a prize during the Fall 2020 alternate reality game (ARG). Titled Jason (The Equalizer early demo), the most noticeable difference heard compared to the final version is the backing track being recycled into the song the_equaliser_not_alone. At some point, a new track was composed for Jason. The only vocals in the demo are by Nikki Flores, with the first verse and chorus being sung twice. Her vocal track is unchanged between versions.
