Jason

From The Midnight Wiki

Jason[1] is a song by The Midnight featuring Nikki Flores. It is the fourth track from their album Endless Summer.

Track info

The song was written by band members Tim McEwan and Tyler Lyle alongside Nikki Flores and produced by McEwan. It has a running time of five minutes and thirty-one seconds and is in the key of F major. The saxophone on Jason was performed by Thomas Edinger.

McEwan has said that the drums in Jason are "a clear homage to Maniac by Michael Sembello."[2]

Demo version

An early demo of Jason was released as a prize during the Fall 2020 ARG. Titled Jason (The Equalizer early demo), the most noticeable difference heard compared to the final version is the backing track being recycled into the song The Equaliser (Not Alone). At some point, a new track was composed for Jason. The only vocals in the demo are by Nikki Flores, with the first verse and chorus being sung twice. Her vocal track is unchanged between versions.

Lyrics

[keep on running]

He comes alive in metropolis lights when the musics way too loud
Deep in the night it's easy to hide and he's got it all figured out
White satellites getting lost in his eyes but to him she's just another girl
Roll with the tide like the wind and the sky and he'll only let you down

Oooh Jason
Tell me what you're chasin'
Because the night will never give you what you want
Oooh Jason
And if you can't escape it
I hope you find whatever you've been looking for

Where do you go in a town full of ghosts and everybody knows your name
And all the homecoming queens in the small town scenes they'll offer you a place to stay
Some want forever instead of whenever when they're naked in the light
It's a strange little potion but sometimes the motion almost makes you feel alive

Oooh Jason
Tell me what you're chasin'
Because the night will never give you what you want
Oooh Jason
And if you can't escape it
I hope you find whatever you've been looking for

And I'm gonna keep on running
