City Dreams (interlude)[1] is a song by The Midnight. It is the 14th track from their album Monsters.

Track info

The song was written by band members Tim McEwan and Tyle Lyle and produced by McEwan. It has a running time of two minutes and seventeen seconds and is in the key of D major.

City Dreams is a callback to Seventeen. A faint male voice can be heard doing an advert for a clothing or department store. Towards the end, the chorus of Seventeen is heard. During an interview with Magnetic Magazine, the band talked about the desire to revisit Seventeen through City Dreams:[2]

Tim: Vaporwave in its purest. The echoes of “Seventeen” ties it back to the start of the album and really makes it clear that all of this was a memory. A photograph that is now faded.

Tyler: We wanted the colors of “Seventeen” to come back near the end of the record and give some space before the denouement. This is the palate cleanser.
